The works are progressing well and currently the steel decking which sits over the concrete slab above Moorgate station is being installed. This decking is designed to support the large, 140 tonne piling rig and associated slave cranes that will be brought to site later in the year. The contractor is also creating holes through the existing concrete deck for the new piles to be installed through.

Works are also progressing behind the scenes in the station below, which ensure that the areas where the piles are installed are clear of any obstructions. The 16 number piles which will support the new building above will be excavated to a depth’s of up to 65 metres and are typically 2.4 metres in diameter. These concrete piles include large steel reinforcing cages to ensure their structural capacity.
